According to CFA, Ragdolls are slow maturing, reaching full coat and color at about three years of age. The Ragdoll is an affectionate and intelligent cat, giving the impression of graceful movement and subdued power, striking in appearance.

  • COAT LENGTH: Longhair
  • CHARACTERISTICS: Large cat with color at the points
  • PERSONALITY: Docile, placid and affectionate

The Ragdoll personality has a people-oriented, follow-you-everywhere quality. They greet you at the door when you come home, follow you from room to room, sleep with you, and will not let you go to the bathroom in peace.

They are floppy and relaxed. You will not find them dangling from the curtain rod, or banking off the wall during a game of chase. They prefer to lie on the floor, preferably on your foot, or on the sofa beside you.

Ragdolls love attention and human contact.

They do not “talk” much. But when they do, they say a word or two in soft, musical voices. They are intelligent cats that like to play fetch, and can be trained to walk with a leash.

Their gentle manner makes them a good choice for families with children as well as elderly people, and their devoted love makes them wonderful companions for those who live alone. null

Ragdoll Kittens

The origin of Ragdoll kittens as a breed has never been crystal clear. It’s generally accepted these cats were the product of a 1960’s cross-breeding between a Persian and a Burmese, but it’s never actually been confirmed whether the parents were purebreds in their own right.

Whatever the true story may be, breed pioneer Ann Baker fell in love with the results and set out to establish her beloved Ragdolls.

Among the harder to believe statements:

  • Ragdoll kittens had some human DNA
  • The breed was the missing link between humans and aliens
  • Ragdolls were incapable of feeling pain

Ragdoll kittens are very laid back and placid. They are not aggressive, and are believed to lack the instinct to fight back when attacked. Just like puppies, Ragdolls will follow you around the house, and greet guests at the door.

They love to be held, and are very playful, especially with their toys. Unlike most cats who hide when company visits, Ragdolls like to make themselves the center of attention.

Ragdoll Cat Size

Ragdoll cats grow anywhere from 10 to 20 pounds. Females should weigh between 10 and 15 pounds while males can weigh as much as 20 lb+. They reach their full maturity and size later than most cats, around 4 years of age.

Ragdoll Cat Price Range

A prospective Ragdoll owner can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $400 to $500 for a pet quality cat while show cats will start at $1,000 and go up. If the price of a kitten is too high or too low, beware that the breeder may not be on the up and up.
