Mersing town is situated on the east coast of Johor, Peninsular Malaysia. It is approximately 136km from the city centre of Johor Bahru. It acts as the main spot of departure of multiple islands on the South China Sea.
From Singapore, total travel time is about 3-4 hours.
Those coming from Kuala Lumpur can expect to take up to 5 hours to reach Mersing.
Given the unpredictability of traffic, a timely departure is recommended in order to not miss your boat ride to Tioman, Rawa or any of the other holiday islands accessible from Mersing.
One can access various islands from Mersing jetty such as the Rawa Island, Dayang Island, Aur Island, Pemanggil Island and more. As it is a fishing village, purchasing seafood there is the best thing to do. You can get fresh seafood with affordable prices. Officially opened at the end of 2017, Mersing Harbour Centre has since paved the way for Mersing to become the gateway to idyllic offshore islands the likes of Tioman, Rawa, Aur and others.
With the grand opening of Mersing Harbour Centre, the procedure of collecting one’s ferry tickets and catching the ferry has finally been upgraded.
To facilitate the process, Mersing Harbour Centre features a number of clearly distinguishable counters for the purpose of ticket collection, ferry manifest registration, as well as for payment of the fees and tolls that are charged.
Travellers who have a preference to walk-in in order to book last-minute ferry tickets can also be served at Mersing Harbour Centre. That is, as long as the ferry in questions isn’t fully booked yet of course.
To ensure nobody goes hungry or thirsty whilst waiting for the ferry to depart, Mersing Harbour Centre offers a comprehensive food and beverage wing. Kluang Rail Coffee has delighted train passengers, locals, and visitors alike with coffee and toast for close to 80 years now. The kopitiam can still be found in the same spot in the quiet Kluang KTM station where you can watch the trains and people go by.

Kluang Modern Agriculture Project (Projek Pertanian Moden Kluang)
The Kluang Modern Agriculture Project (Projek Pertanian Moden Kluang) was officially launched in 2004 and covers over 9,000 acres. Within this project, there are herbal and grazing faRMs, including the largest goat and sheep farm, UK Agro Farm with over 4,000 heads of sheep and goat grazing over 100 acres.
One of Malaysia’s largest vegetable organic farms at over 100 acres, Zenxin Agri-Organic Food, is also located in Kluang.

Gunung Lambak, Kluang
Gunung Lambak is situated at an elevation of 510m above the sea level. From Kluang, the distance of Gunung Lambak is around 2km. The place serves as a popular trekking destination for the locals and it has also become a must-visit getaway for tourists coming to Kluang.
At the foot of Gunung Lambak, there is an exceptionally attractive and beautiful recreational forest. Here, tourist will have the chance to swim in the pool and climb the mountain. Apart from being filled with the diversity of flora and fauna, cool and pleasant waterfall is also available here. For children, a playground is also prepared, as well as accommodation facilities.
Kluang Street Art
A total of 24 murals were painted on the 100-meter long alley behind the iconic Jalan Teo Siew Khor. The name ‘Kluang Kreatif1020’ was selected to pay homage to the town’s founding year of 1910. It also points out the town’s advancement to 2020.
The Kluang is a town in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia. Kluang was founded in 1915 as the administrative capital of central Johor by the British. It is located in the centre of the state and is within 90 minutes of all major urban areas of Johor.
The main railway line linking north to south Malaya was built passing through Kluang and this helped in its growth. Roads were built to link Kluang to Johor Bahru towards the south-east, to Batu Pahat towards the south-west and to Mersing towards the north-east.

The name Kluang derives from the Malay word ‘keluang‘ which means a type of flying fox or rather a type of fruit bat, which used to be plentiful in the district decades ago. They have almost completely disappeared due to the combination of hunting and destruction of their natural habitat.
Local Councils
Kluang is divided into two local councils namely Simpang Renggam District Council (Malay: Majlis Daerah Simpang Renggam) based at Simpang Renggam Town and Kluang Municipal Council (Malay: Majlis Perbandaran Kluang) based at Kluang Town which is also the district capital.
Over the 20th century, Kluang’s economy transitioned from rubber to palm oil and now has some of Malaysia’s largest organic farms.
Kluang has developed a diversified agricultural and organic farm sector. New kinds of plantation such as dragon fruit and organic vegetables have emerged. One of Malaysia’s largest vegetable organic farms at over 100 acres, Zenxin Agri-Organic Food, is also located in Kluang.

This recreational forest is located not far away from town centre, about only 5 kilometres away. It is considered as a convenient and safe place to visit as it is not too far from civilization, located around at the end of residential area.
